Holiday Gift Guide by Person: Where to Start for Everyone on Your List

A long list is easier when you take it one person at a time. Here's where to start for each person on yours.

Assorted engraved gifts including a cutting board, wallet, knife, jewelry box, coasters, and keychains with holiday greenery

The holiday gift list gets long fast. Mom, Dad, grandparents, the kids, a coworker, the boss, a teacher, the neighbor, and someone who already has everything. Here's a quick guide to where to start for each of them, using things we make.

    For Mom

A jewelry box, an engraved cutting board for the kitchen, or a recipe board with a family recipe on it are three good picks. A sign with the family name for her kitchen or entryway also lands well.

    For Dad

A pocket knife with initials, a leather wallet, a metal ammo can for the garage, or a set of engraved barware are all good choices. If he grills, a large engraved board or a backyard sign is a good fit.

    For grandparents

A family tree sign with the names of the kids and grandkids is the classic. A keepsake box or a photo piece is a good second option.

    For kids and teens

A keychain with their name, a small ornament with the year, or a sign for their room all feel personal without being babyish.

    For teachers and coaches

A small plaque, a coaster set, or a desk piece with a short thank-you works well. A group gift from the class or the team goes further than a pile of small ones.

    For coworkers and the boss

A coaster set, a nameplate, or a desk piece with a logo or a name fits the office. Keep it simple and professional.

For the person who has everything

A custom piece, like a coordinate map, a recipe board, or a voice recording engraving, is something they can't buy in a store.

What's the easiest gift to personalize if I'm short on time?

Small pieces like keychains, coasters, and gift tags are the quickest. Order early, though, since every piece still needs a proof and shipping time.

How do I choose between a ready-made item and custom work?

Ready-made items in the shop are faster, with light personalization like a name. Custom work gives you control over the design, but it takes longer. If you're close to a deadline, start with the shop.
