How Much Does Custom Laser Engraving Actually Cost?
Nobody likes asking "how much is this going to cost me" and getting "it depends" as the whole answer. Here's an actual breakdown.

"It depends" is a true answer and a useless one. So here's what custom engraving actually costs and why.
What drives the price
Four things move the number more than anything else: the material, the size, how much design work is involved, and the quantity. A single engraved coaster costs less than a full family tree sign for the same reason a greeting card costs less than a custom painting. More surface area and more detail means more machine time.
Ready-made shop items are priced up front because the design work is already done. Full custom work needs a quote because we're building the artwork from scratch, and that can mean anything from adding a name to a template to hand-tracing a pet portrait.
What does a typical order cost?
Small personalized items like coasters, keychains, and gift tags usually run in the $15 to $35 range. Mid-size pieces like cutting boards, wallets, and single ornaments land between $35 and $75. Larger or more detailed work, like family tree signs, walnut gift boxes, or multi-item corporate orders, usually falls between $75 and $200 depending on complexity.
Why do some quotes come back higher than expected?
Usually it's one of three things: the photo needs heavy editing before it will engrave cleanly, the size requested needs a bigger sheet of material than the price assumed, or the order includes a rush turnaround. We'll always tell you which one it is instead of just handing you a number.
Does a bigger order mean a better price per item?
Yes. Volume orders, especially for corporate gifts or team ornaments, drop the per-unit cost because the setup work only has to happen once. If you're ordering five or more of the same design, ask for a volume quote before you commit to the shop price.
Getting an accurate number
The fastest way to get a real price instead of a guess is the quote form. Tell us the material, the size you're picturing, and attach a reference photo if you have one. Most quotes come back within 24 hours, and there's no obligation to move forward.
A custom gift is worth paying for once you know what you're actually paying for. We'd rather explain the number than surprise you with it.
