Pastor Appreciation Month: Engraved Gifts for Your Pastor, Priest, or Church Staff
October is Pastor Appreciation Month, and most thank-you gifts get used once and forgotten. Here's what a pastor will actually keep where they can see it.

October is Pastor Appreciation Month, and most churches do something special around the second Sunday. A card and a gift card are fine. They also tend to get used once and forgotten. If you want to give something your pastor will keep on a desk or a shelf, here are a few ideas.
Something for the desk or study
A pastor spends a lot of hours at a desk writing sermons, answering email, and sitting with people who are going through something hard. An engraved nameplate, a pen holder, or a leather padfolio for sermon notes gets used every single week. A small wood sign with the church name or a favorite verse works well on a bookshelf too.
A plaque that marks the years
If your pastor has been at the church for five, ten, or twenty years, a plaque with their name, the church, and the years served is a good way to say thank you out loud. It's the kind of thing that gets hung in an office and stays there.
What should you put on a pastor appreciation gift?
Keep it simple. The pastor's name, the church name, and the year are plenty. If you want to add a verse, pick a short one and double-check the reference before you send it to us. A short line reads cleaner on wood or leather than a full paragraph. Skip the inside jokes unless the whole congregation is in on them.
Gifts from the whole church
One good plaque or desk set from "Your church family" usually lands better than a pile of small gifts, and it lets everyone chip in. A line like "From the congregation of [church name]" keeps the engraving clean without trying to fit every family name on one piece.
Don't forget the rest of the staff
Office administrators, youth ministers, worship leaders, and the people who unlock the building every Sunday morning often get left out. A smaller matching gift, like a coaster set or a keychain, makes sure they get thanked too.
Does it have to be given in October?
No. A lot of churches celebrate on the second Sunday of October, which is October 11 this year, but plenty of them do it all month or pick a Sunday that fits their calendar. The gift matters more than the date. If you're aiming for a specific Sunday, give us a couple of weeks.
Tell us the pastor's name, the church, and what you're thinking, and we'll help you put together something that fits.
