Gifts for Musicians: Pick Holders, Instrument Plaques, and Gear Tags
Musicians collect gear like other people collect coffee mugs. Here's what to give them that isn't another cable.
Musicians own a lot of gear, and most of it gets lost or borrowed at some point. If you're shopping for someone who plays, the best gifts are small things with their name on them that they'll actually use. Here are some ideas.
Guitar picks that aren't generic
Picks are the most borrowed item in any band. Engraved picks with a name, a band logo, or a small design make a nice stocking stuffer or a gift for a whole band.
Plaques for the practice space
A wood plaque with the band name, a favorite lyric line from your own song, or a simple "Studio" sign turns a garage or a spare room into a place that feels like a rehearsal space.
Gear tags and cable labels
Leather or wood tags on gig bags, pedal boards, and cases keep gear from getting mixed up at a venue. A name and a phone number on a tag has saved more than one missing amp.
Recital and concert gifts
For a first recital, a school concert, or a final performance before graduation, a small plaque or an ornament with the date and the piece they played is a nice memory. It's a good gift for a parent to give a young musician.
Can you engrave directly on an instrument?
We'd usually steer you away from it. A mistake on a guitar or a trumpet is permanent, and the finishes on many instruments can react unpredictably. Items that sit near the instrument, like a stand plaque, a pick holder, or a case tag, are a safer way to get the same personal touch.
What do you give a band as a group?
A matching set works well. Think coasters with the band name and logo, a plaque for the rehearsal space, or a set of picks for each member. If you have a logo, we'll tell you what file we need to make it look right.
Tell us what they play and what they already own, and we'll help you find something that fits.
