Custom Engraved Awards That Beat a Generic Trophy

Most workplace awards look like they came from the same catalog, because they usually did. Here's how to give one that doesn't.

Walk into most offices and the awards on display look nearly identical, gold-tone plastic trophies from the same handful of catalogs. Here's how to give an award that actually stands out, and actually gets kept.

    Material makes the difference

A solid wood or metal award, with a genuinely thoughtful design instead of a stock trophy shape, signals that the achievement mattered enough to invest in something real. It doesn't need to be flashy to feel significant.

Why do most workplace awards end up in a drawer?

Because they're generic enough that they don't feel personal, even though the achievement they're recognizing usually is. An award engraved with specific details, the actual project name, a specific sales number, the exact years of service, feels earned in a way a generic "Employee of the Year" trophy doesn't.

    Recurring award systems

For awards given annually, a display piece with room for annual nameplates (similar to a perpetual trophy) builds a sense of history and tradition around the award itself, and gives past winners a reason to check back on it year after year.

    Team vs individual recognition

Some achievements are genuinely a team effort, and a single award for an individual can create resentment instead of recognition. A shared engraved piece, kept somewhere the whole team sees it, sometimes fits the achievement better than singling one person out.

Does the award need to look "corporate"?

Not necessarily. Depending on your company culture, a more personal or even humorous engraved award (for the person who fixed the most printer jams, for example) can build morale in a way a formal trophy never will. Match the tone to your actual workplace culture.

Tell us what you're recognizing and the culture of your workplace, and we'll help you design something people actually want to win.
