"Can I get this personalized?" and "Can you make this custom?" come in almost every day, and people usually mean two different things without realizing it.

Personalized Means Adding Your Details to an Existing Design

Personalized work starts with a design that already exists, like one of our gift tags, ornaments, or family tree signs, and adds your specific details on top of it. A name, a date, a short message. The layout, size, and basic look stay the same. Only the text or names change.

This is the faster, more affordable path, and it's what most of our ready-made shop items are built around.

Custom Means Building Something From Scratch

Custom work means we're designing something specifically for you, from the ground up. Maybe it's a wood sign in a size we don't normally offer, a piece that combines a photo with your own wording, or a design idea you sketched out yourself. Nothing about it is coming from an existing template.

Custom work usually takes more back and forth, since we're designing it with you instead of just filling in a form. It also tends to cost more and take longer, simply because there's real design time involved.

Why the Difference Matters When You Order

If you tell us you want something "personalized" but you're actually picturing a totally original design, we'll end up going back and forth trying to figure out what you meant. Being specific up front saves everyone time.

• If a design close to what you want already exists in the shop, that's personalization, and it's usually the quicker, cheaper route
• If you have a specific idea that doesn't match anything we already offer, that's custom work, and it starts with a quote request

Neither option is better than the other. It just depends on what you're picturing and how much you want to be involved in shaping the design.
